DIVAS  (Digital Interactive Visual Arts Science) for Social Justice, a New York City based organization has launched Laurelton.nyc in conjunction with the  Mayor’s Office of Innovation and Technology .Laurelton.nyc serves as an online community news outlet to encourage inter-generational citizen journalism. The community members of Laurelton will serve as contributors to Laurelton.nyc.

DIVAS for Social Justice encourages youth in underserved communities to use technology for social change and know there is a need for digital literacy in all communities. Students that participate in the DIVAS after-school program, STEAM for Social Change will also serve as citizen journalists at Laurelton.nyc. The organization will be providing a community journalism curriculum to the schools they serve and each  news team will be featured monthly at Laurelton.nyc

The students of the Linden SDA School are the inaugural youth citizen journalism group reporting at  Laurelton.nyc   and have written their first multi-media based article, “My Tweenage President” about the 2016 Presidential Election. DIVAS for Social Justice will build youth citizen journalism teams in 2017 at P.S 156 and P.S 132.

In addition to the youth DIVAS has also invited community members to serve as contributors to Laurelton.nyc. Councilman Donovan Richards and Assemblywoman Alicia Hyndman will also serve as future contributors to Laurelton.nyc .

The organization is encouraging everyone to submit written work about or inspired by Laurelton to be featured at the site. If you would like to contribute you can send an email to: laurelton@divasforsocialjustice.org
